Airthrey Park Gallery
The story of a conventional home OO layout that has ventured over 3 countries and 2000 miles only to end up as an exhibition standard DCC layout.

36. One of the aims of the layouts is to create mini-scenes and what better than this? A Cravens DMU sits waiting its next turn of duty while 27005 manoeuvres fuel TTAs. The more observant among you will notice that we are evolving even before we get out on the circuit and the adequate but commonplace Portakabins have been replaced by a far nicer 'bespoke' crew bothy built by Malcolm. The original fueller based on Ayr depot has also gone. The structure (which may work in stell) was far too prone to warping in plastikard and the newer one can be seen in 2008 images.  02. HST. Probably one of the most bizarre 'railway' photos you can get! This image of the High Level Bridge and Gateshead TMD was taken from the flightdeck of an RAF Hercules some 800ft above Newcastle, whilst the plane was preparing to make a low-level fly-past having dropped the Red Devils parachute team from 10,000ft over the Town Moor during 1987. What could be a cross-country HST set is sat on the High Level Bridge with several 37s and 47s just visible on the depot! The 'obstruction' in front of the camera is actually the co-pilot...! 26. The fuelling point is based on that at Ayr, an ususal design but superbly captured in miniature by MD. Duff 47006 and Rat 25083 pose under the structure whilst testing clearances. At this point the roof and centre structure (which stays on the baseboard when top comes off) were not well aligned. The top has now been rebuilt and you can see from photos of 20 in the dark etc later on that it all fits a lot better now.  02. Airthrey Park; Adding the finishing touches 2006-07  (1000)
25028. View inside the No.1 end cab, which is full of junk with cables hanging out of the hole where the grille has been 'borrowed' from, the windscreens have star shaped smashes where local vandals have bricked them. A one way ticket to MC metals in Glasgow beckons. An excellent feature on 25028 (and sisters) can be found at; www.derbysulzers.com/25026.html   12. Airthrey Park Motive Power & Rolling Stock  (941)
33. Aerial view from the fueling point end during June 2007, with the layout starting to come alive.  02. Airthrey Park; Adding the finishing touches 2006-07  (932)

Welcome
Airthrey Park was conceived in Portugal and via a brief stay in England came 'home' to Stirling & Clackmannanshire Model Railway Club in 2004. The layout is owned by Andrew Donnelly but operated as a club layout. The stars are Simon Barratt, Jeff and David Paterson, Roland Turner, Mark Pearson and the original perfectionist, Malcolm Donnelly.

Lest we forget, the layout is dedicated to the memory of Andrew Elliott.

The site has folders depicting stages in the layout's development as well as galleries covering buildings, motive power, rolling stock, the rogues who made it all possible and prototype images.

We look forward to seeing you all at Glasgow show in February 2009 and apologise for the protected folder from a few weeks ago. We were bound by copyright to keep these images undercover until Feb 2009 Rail Express was published.
